Summary:
When world famous Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is summoned to a Swiss research facility to examine a mysterious symbol -- seared into the chest of a murdered physicist -- he discovers evidence of the unimaginable: the rebirth of an ancient secret brotherhood known as the Illuminati.... the most powerful underground organization ever to walk the earth. The Illuminati has surfaced from the shadows to carry out the final phase of its legendary vendetta against its most hated enemy... the Catholic Church.
Langdon's worst fears are confirmed on the eve of the Vatican's holy conclave, when a messenger of the Illuminati announces he has hidden an unstoppable time bomb at the very heart of Vatican City. With the countdown under way, Langdon jets to Rome to join forces with Vittoria Vetra, a beautiful and mysterious Italian scientist, to assist the Vatican in a desperate bid for survival.
Embarking on a frantic hunt through sealed crypts, dangerous catacombs, deserted cathedrals, and even to the heart of the most secretive vault on earth, Langdon and Vetra follow a 400-year old trail of ancient symbols that snakes across Rome toward the long-forgotten Illuminati hideout, a secret location that contains the only hope for Vatican salvation......
Opinion:
To me, I think "Angels and Demons" is a must-read book. It is a novel based heavily around the different philosophical viewpoints and intent between science and religion. It is a page turner from the very beginning. I think the themes would be romance, drama and science fiction. But what had my eyes glued to the pages was the amount of mysteries and questions that came with every moment. If you're worried about getting lost, don't worry, this book didn't have so many characters that you couldn't keep up with the action but it didn't have so little to where it was too intimate to focus on the main plot. Even though being fictional, I think Dan Brown has the power to bring about a false consciousness about the facts and the myths in the world and makes me rethink and question our world of knowledge and perception. When I read this novel, I almost submitted my mind to the realm of imagination. Dan Brown made me realize faith is the backbone of all. I think it has stirred up a debate in my mind regarding religion and science which i have never thought of. I learned the greatest good, pure, person can fall into a deep sin. that's why we have to be balanced.
